Young-at-heart on tour

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

South Regional TAFE Bunbury Tourism students recently took residents from Busselton Lifestyle Village on an amazing tour of our South West Region.

The Young Hearts Down South tour was designed and organised by the students from contacting industry stops, travelling times and invitations to the itinerary, name tags and presenting commentaries as part of an assessment for the Certificate III in Tourism qualifications.

This tour allows them to demonstrate their experience for many of the units covered in the course such as prepare and present tour commentaries and activities; provide service to customers; provide visitor information and design and produce business documents.

South Regional TAFE lecturer Linda Williams said it was a great for the students who enjoyed the real-life experience and they did an amazing job.

Our Tour visited Anniebrook Flower Emporium, Vasse Virgin, Gabriel Chocolate, Swings & Roundabouts for lunch and finished at Happs Winery for wine tasting.

The students would like to thank all the organisations who supported the tour, which provided something for everyone.

“Feedback from the tour indicated that they really appreciated the careful planning that went into it,” she said.

“We have received thank you cards from the residents and they have said they were impressed with the variety of venues we visited and the professionalism of the students.”

The students who conducted the tour were Tahnee, Nicole, Kira, Rhanni and Stephen.

The Certificate III in Tourism qualification is part of the State Government’s Lower fees, local skills program in 2021, meaning tuition fees will be half price for everyone, and capped at $400 for concession students and people under 25.

In October, the State Government announced additional funding for the tourism sector to boost regional tourism.
